Message about Henry Wall Part I

Dear family and friends –

We are writing to those of you who shared our father, Henry Walls, 85th birthday with our family, last year on August 13th. Perhaps you will want to pass this information on to others who would want to know.

In early 2007, Henry was diagnosed with “vascular dementia,” a decreased blood flow to the brain, largely a function of his aging process and not able to be treated. In addition, he has had several “mini-strokes since then.

When you saw him last year and after that time, you probably noticed that he has a tremor of his right hand. He also was displaying weakness and loss of balance causing him to use a walker, and he has some mental confusion and garbled speech.

In the past 3 months, we have noticed significant decline in all these areas. Two weeks ago, Henry’s doctor recommended that he begin Hospice care, as his conditon is not going to improve. Hospice has been kind and quick to bring a hospital bed and a wheelchair, to provide a nurse, a health aide, and a chaplain.

The doctor told us there is no way to predict how long Henry may be with us. What has been somewhat startling – and the reason we are wanting to contact all of you at this time – is that even in just the past 2 weeks we are able to notice him becoming more weak and frail and having some decrease in appetite and loss of weight.

Our dear Henry’s death is not immediately imminent, but his strength is waning. He tires easily with our visits but always enjoys a hug and a laugh. If you want to visit or send a card or simply hold him in your prayers, he will always know of your love and friendship.

Since Henry cannot work his e-mail anymore, you may reply to this e-mail with any questions or messages for him or for us.

We are grateful for the important role you all have played in our father’s life and will let you know when there is any new information about his condition.

With love,

Joyce and Freeman Allan
