Hi Fellow WPSD Alumni and families,
We would like to update you all on what has been going on from the WPSD Alumni Board.
As most of you know our School CEO, Donald Rhoten announced his retirement effective June 30, 2016 after 23 year of service. The WPSD Board has selected 9 Board members to be a part of a Search Committee. The Search Committee then chose 3 Advisory Committees consisting of Alumni, parents, and staff from both schools. There will be a total of 24 people involved in the process with 51% deaf on the searching committee. It is the similar process that we were part of in 1992.
Please check the Alumni website often. We began posting our meeting minutes on the web after an approved motion during the 2014 reunion.
We have continued to support WPSD by sponsoring the WPSD Fall In gala auction, which will occur on October 9th. We also supported the NEW residence hall project. We are still working on fund raising for a scholarship fund to benefit a graduating student of WPSD. WPSD students always love something new! They deserved the best!!
We have established a new page on our website, DONATE on our WPSDALUMNI.ORG website. You can find this link in the top right navigation tab on any page. The Donate page includes your preferred method of payment: PayPal or send a check via mail. You can donate any amount of money to the Alumni Association of WPSD to show your support. Your support is always greatly appreciated.
As all of you know, WPSD has created a new program last year called “WPSD FOR LIFE” for our students who need help or aid after graduating from WPSD. It’s a fabulous program that will guide alumni with needs with hearing aides, housing, or employment. Check out WPSD.org for more information.
The Alumni Pavilion brick walkway is 100% completed and we are currently closing all orders. It looks great, thank you to all who supported and donated to our pavilion project!
We are grateful to have a strong Alumni Board and leading our team including 5 new Board members from last year’s reunion. We are looking forward to our next reunion in June 2017.
