Nancy Simmons, 85, of New Kensington, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018. She was born April 9, 1933, in Latrobe, and attended was a graduate of the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Edgewood. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, of New Kensington. She enjoyed playing bingo and especially spending time with and taking trips to Disney World with her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was a very sociable person and led an active and productive life in the deaf community. Nancy enjoyed all Pittsburgh sports. Survivors include her children, Joanne M. (Dr. Stephen) Cherban, of Erie, Catherine L. (Dr. James) Minford, of Upper Burrell Township, and William R. (Janet) Simmons, of Allegheny Township; seven grandchildren, Sara (Daniel) Cherban Szustak, MacKenzie Cherban, Megan (Kasey) Minford Koscianski, Connor J. Minford, Zachary W. Simmons, Rachel E. Simmons and Michael F. Simmons; and great-granddaughter, Arielle Rose Szustak. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell R. Simmons, in 1998.

Viewing will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where prayers of transfer will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Friday in Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 100 Freeport Road, New Kensington. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
