Richard Summers Siar, 75, of Waterford, PA, passed away on September 11, 2024. Richard was born on January 30, 1949, in Brookville, PA. He was the son of the late Summers and Marilyn Siar. He graduated from the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Pittsburgh, PA. He began his career at Damore Press in 1973, where he worked for 9 years before serving as a mail clerk at the U.S. Postal Service in Erie, PA, for over 24 years.
While attending the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, Richard excelled as an athlete. He served as the team captain for track, soccer, and basketball, breaking two school track records in the 880-yard dash and the mile run. His track team won the ESDAA Track Tournament Championships in 1968 and 1969. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, Richard was inducted into the Athlete Hall of Fame in 2014.
Richard was a devoted member of the Erie Silent Club since 1973, where he showed strong support for the deaf community and enjoyed the friendship of fellow deaf individuals.
He deeply valued and appreciated the support and companionship of his co-workers, friends, and family, both on his side and on his wife’s side. He cherished the love and encouragement he received throughout his life. Richard and his family are also grateful to the doctors and nurses in Waterford, PA, and Erie, PA, for their dedicated care and the many hours they spent trying to help him. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marcia; his children, Joseph Justin Siar and Robert Summers Siar; and his grandson, Ethan Alexander Siar.
