The Pavilion Story

In 1906, the WPSD woodworking class embarked on a project to build a pavilion for the students and alumni to enjoy. They completed the project in 1907, naming it the Summer Playhouse.

For seventy years, the Summer Playhouse, as it was known, served as a gathering place for friends and a venue for various activities. When the pavilion was demolished, the alumni community mourned its loss.

In response, the WPSD Alumni Association has decided to rebuild the pavilion on campus, near the side of the main building (where the infirmary building was demolished). The new pavilion will retain the same design as the original. The goal is to mobilize volunteers from the Deaf community to complete the construction during the summer of 2011.

Today, the pavilion is affectionately known as the Alumni Pavilion and has been warmly welcomed by WPSD administrators, staff, students, friends, and alumni alike. The picnic shelter within the pavilion has been a popular spot for over a decade, with frequent use.
