Obituary: Margaret (Miceli) Sobina, Class of 1953

Margaret J. (Miceli) Sobina, 84, of 217 First Ave. Rouseville, PA., died at 4:45 A.M. Thursday Sept. 7, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, PA. after an extended illness.

Born in Shawmut, PA. On July 28, 1933, She was the daughter of the late Rosiro & Antonia Caruso Miceli. Her parents arrived to America in New York City from Palermo, Sicily by ship to look for a better job and for a better life for their children.

Mrs. Sobina was the 9th of ten children of the family and was raised in Brockway, PA.

Margaret went to the Western PA. School for the Deaf in Pittsburgh and graduated in 1953.  She was involved in many activities at school, including girl scouts.

She met her future husband at a school dance and later married Frank G. Sobina Sr. on Oct. 30, 1954 in Brockway, PA. at St. Tobias Catholic Church.  They enjoyed a wonderful 60 years together, Frank passed away on Dec. 21, 2014.

Margaret was a kitchen helper at the Valley Lunch Restaurant for many years. She later went to work for Sam Sanfillipo at the Villa Italia and worked there for 12 years before retiring.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan A. Cooper & her husband John R. Cooper Sr. of Oil City, A son, Frank G. Sobina Jr. & his wife Robin of Oil City, three grandchildren, Tammy Sobina & her partner Benjamin Loud, Frank Sobina & his wife Brandy, John R. Cooper Jr & his girlfriend Michaela Herman, 2 step grandchildren, David and Susan Parsons, 3 Great Grandchildren Olivia Marie Loud, Lyla & Kaylie Sobina, one sister, Deanna Rutka of Ebensburg.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 P.M. Sunday in the Reinsel Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday in St. Venantius Church with Fr. John Miller Presiding.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
