New Member For Deaf and Hard of Hearing Council

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ — PA Labor & Industry Secretary Stephen M. Schmerin today announced the appointment of Andrew P. Kovach to the Advisory Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ACDHH).

“The Rendell administration wants to help people who are deaf or hard of hearing find rewarding employment in Pennsylvania,” Schmerin said. “As the president and founder of the Pittsburgh Deaf Business Association, Andrew brings a great deal of knowledge and experience concerning the employment challenges faced by people who are deaf and hard of hearing.”

The ACDHH meets quarterly to advise the Office for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing (ODHH) on a multitude of subjects that involve people with hearing disabilities.

Kovach also serves as the recording secretary for the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf Alumni Association and as a liaison in the deaf community for those in management, employment and business. Kovach has worked for Bechtel Bettis Inc., West Mifflin, Allegheny County, for more than 20 years. He also teaches adult evening class at the Center on Deafness in Swissvale, Allegheny County.
