Mary Etta Mowl, 93, of Washington, went home to be with Jesus Friday, August 30, 2024, in her home, with her family by her side.

She was born April 22, 1931, in Somerset, a daughter of the late Frank and Margie Tipton. Mary Etta was a graduate of Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf in Pittsburgh in 1951.

On June 20, 1953, she married the love of her life, Donald Mowl. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church for the Deaf, where she served as a choir leader. She was a member of Great Lakes Regional Conference and a member of the Deaf Senior Citizens Club. She also belonged to the International Lutheran Deaf Association.

She was a devoted wife, mother, granny, and great-grandmother. Mary leaves behind her daughter, Nancy Britt (Dennis); five grandchildren, Chris Britt, Valerie Schrader, Ken (Jessica) Britt, William “BJ” Britt, Vaughn (Shannon) Simonelli; along with eight great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Isabella and Zachary Schrader, Julianna, Felicity, Laura and Carolina Britt, Elenor “Ellie Mae” Simonelli; as well as a special sister- in-law, Betty Lawson; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, of 62 years in 2016; a son, Marty; four sisters; and three brothers.

The family would like to thank the wonderful care she received from the staff at Gateway Hospice and Caring Mission.

Friends and family are welcome from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of a funeral service, Saturday, September 7, in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington. Interment will follow in Lone Pine Cemetery. A guest book may be signed at www.nicholfuneralhome.com
